In May 2025, Delhi’s COVID-19 numbers increased, mirroring what happened to many cities across India. Between May 12 and May 22, 23 COVID-19 cases were added in New Delhi by private laboratories. It is the biggest increase in infections in London since late 2019. The officials are checking if these patients are either local or foreign visitors to identify if they can spread the disease locally.
Government Response: Delhi COVID-19 Cases Surge: 23 New Infections Reported in 10 Days
Delhi government officials have pointed out that there is no need for alarm because all the known cases are mild and stable. The government and health officials are making sure to keep cases at a minimum: cricbrek
- Hospital Preparedness: Hospitals are being told to ensure there are enough beds, oxygen supplies, medicine and vaccines for patients.
- Surveillance Measures: Strict guidelines now require full details of all cases to be released every day and the genome sequencing of cases that test positive to notice the presence of new virus mutations.
- Public Health Guidelines: COVID-19 guidance issued by the health department suggests people use masks in health settings, clean their hands often and try to avoid crowded areas.
Emerging Variants:
Recently, India found new variations of COVID-19 which include NB.1.8.1 and LF.7. The World Health Organization now lists these as “Variants Under Monitoring,” but health officials urge people to continue to pay attention. Most Indians tested for the variant have JN.1 which accounts for 53% of cases.
